Red Bull and K-Businesscom take action against cyberattacks
The threat of cyberattacks is intensifying: the Austrian Federal Criminal Police Office sees cybercrime as one of the greatest challenges to the country's security. Within a year, the number of cybercrimes has risen by a good 30 percent.
SOC Vienna recognizes 1.2 trillion potential threats
"Cyber risks have reached a new dimension," says Jochen Borenich, CEO CANCOM SE/CSO (until August 2023 CEO at K-Businesscom). "Our Security Operation Center in Vienna alone identified and managed an incredible 1.2 trillion potential risks for our customers in 2022. We were able to successfully fend off critical attacks."
Today, practically all companies, from small and medium-sized enterprises to large corporations, are confronted with attacks from the internet. The attacks are directed against IT infrastructures, but increasingly also against production, which is often still inadequately protected. If the criminals succeed in paralyzing operations, it takes an average of 30 days before the threat is averted and production is back to normal. The downtime costs and reputational damage in such cases are enormous.
IT professionals take over cyber defense
In view of the potential damage and the increasingly complex threat scenarios, companies are professionalizing their cyber defence. K-Businesscom's external specialists take on the task of identifying potential risks as early as possible and averting dangers before they occur. Unlike traditional in-house IT in companies, the specialized IT professionals are able to counter the fraudsters "at eye level" - for example by using artificial intelligence.
Red Bull relies on cyber defense from K-Businesscom
Consumer goods group Red Bull, for example, relies on the expertise of K-Businesscom. The global market leader for energy drinks pursues a holistic security strategy and at the same time focuses on particularly vulnerable areas. The Vulnerability Management module from K-Businesscom's Cyber Defense Center provides this building block. This is a leading Security Operation Center in Europe.
In the specially protected high-security environment, the experts operate a central scanning and management infrastructure: Red Bull's global network environment is automatically scanned for unknown IT assets and tested for known software IT vulnerabilities. If unknown devices are detected in the network, Red Bull is informed immediately and receives recommendations for action. The primary goal is to identify potential threats as early as possible and track them until they have been neutralized.
Digital fire department ready for action at any time
"Like a digital fire department, our employees are on standby around the clock, seven days a week," says Borenich. "Our job is to prevent cyberattacks and keep the damage as low as possible in an emergency."
Security concept can be expanded on a modular basis
If the worst comes to the worst, speed and transparency are top priorities in order to reveal the fraudsters' patterns of movement. "The continuous checks provide us with the necessary transparency and enable us to take important precautionary measures," says Jimmy Heschl, Global Head of Digital Security, Red Bull. As threat scenarios are constantly evolving, it is also important for the Group to have an adaptable and expandable security concept. This is ensured by the individual modules in the Cyber Defense Center. "KBC's services are an important building block in our security toolbox and offer us the opportunity to maintain and continuously improve our security level," says Heschl.
In future, K-Businesscom will offer customers the combined expertise of two leading ICT providers in the area of cyber security. This is because K-Businesscom will become part of the CANCOM Group." K-Businesscom operates Security Operation Centers (SOC) in Vienna, Klagenfurt and St. Gallen in Switzerland. CANCOM has Security Operation Centers in Germany.
Conclusion
The risk of companies in Europe falling victim to cyber attacks is increasing. At the same time, the threat scenarios are becoming increasingly complex. In this situation, it is important to meet criminals "at eye level" and to professionalize cyber defence. Small and medium-sized companies as well as corporations such as Red Bull rely on the expertise of K-Businesscom. The modular components in the ICT provider's Cyber Defense Center enable an adaptable and expandable security concept to counter potential threats as far in advance as possible.
