Frequently asked questions

  • What does Voice-over-IP (VoIP) mean?

With Voice-over-IP, the voice information is not transmitted via separate connections/lines (ISDN/analog), but the voice is transported via the Internet in the form of IP data packets. This eliminates the costs for separate cabling and components, as is the case with conventional telephony.

  • How do I know if I am still using ISDN?

You will recognize it immediately from your last provider telephone bill. The costs for the ISDN connection are listed at the top of the bill. In order to optimally develop a complete concept for a CANCOM VoIP telephony solution, please upload a photo of your provider bill in the contact form in addition to your contact details and requirements. This will enable us to provide you with a customized offer for a "state of the art & fit for the future" communication solution.

  • When will the analog telephone lines be switched off?

Traditional analog home telephone connections are being switched off by providers at the same time as ISDN. For private home users, the providers usually provide DSL Internet modems to connect the existing analog home telephone. ATTENTION: this usually involves considerably higher costs. If you are currently using analog telephone connections for your business, we will be happy to develop a modern VoIP-based solution for your future communication requirements.

  • I have received the information about the ISDN switch-off, do I have to do anything now?

Yes, we recommend contacting us to work out the optimum solution for you.

  • Will my costs or conditions change?

Yes, the migration to SIP/VoIP and the SIP trunk services offered by CANCOM result in a considerable cost advantage.

  • What does Internet telephony cost?

The costs for Internet telephony consist on the one hand of the ongoing provider costs for the SIP numbers and the call minutes used, and on the other hand of the telephony solution used. With the CANCOM SIP trunk provider services in combination with our cloud or on-premise telephony solutions, we put together an attractive overall package for you with no hidden costs at a future-proof price.

  • What do I need to make calls over the Internet?

In order to be able to make calls via the Internet, your existing ISDN telephone number must be converted (ported) to SIP. We offer the complete package for SIP lines and VoIP.

  • Do I need a new telephone system?

By migrating to SIP, telephony can be made available directly from the cloud. If your existing telephone system is a newer model, we will be happy to advise you on the extent to which this system can be connected with SIP trunks.

  • Do I need a telephone for Internet telephony?

No, by using Internet telephony (VoIP) it is common to make calls directly via your PC workstation using a softphone and connected headset. This eliminates the need for telephones and cabling. Nevertheless, it is still possible to set up your own VoIP telephones so that you can make calls without a PC.

  • Which telephone can I use for Internet telephony?

Usually, either softphones (program on your PC workstation) or VoIP telephones are used for Internet telephony. However, it is also possible to connect classic analog telephones (e.g. for a hotel) to modern VoIP telephone systems via so-called VoIP/analog gateways. This means that every connection where a telephone is required does not necessarily have to be equipped with network cabling.

  • How do I connect a VoIP telephone?

A VoIP telephone set is usually connected via an RJ45 network connection. In addition, a VoIP telephone requires a power supply, either via POE (Power over Ethernet) or a local plug-in power supply unit. Our solution experts will be happy to work with you to plan the optimal use of your existing network infrastructure and advise you on any additional requirements.
