Red Cross Styria
Red Cross Styria?
"We are there to help, locally, nationally, globally." This is how the Red Cross, which celebrated its 140th birthday in 2020 and is active in 192 countries worldwide, defines its mission statement. Behind the services provided by the Styrian Red Cross are over 12,000 volunteers and full-time employees
CANCOM Austria emerged from K-Businesscom (formerly Kapsch BusinessCom) at the beginning of 2024. The following case study was written before that and therefore the text was left in the original version.
Business Challenge
Growing demands on IT and the desire to take further, sustainable steps towards digitalization meant that the aging server and storage landscape at the Styrian Red Cross had to be comprehensively renewed. Project objective: Simple, efficient IT management and scaling. Tailored to individual user needs.
Solution
A reorientation of the data center towards virtualization and so-called Composable Infrastructure (CI) and a modernization and consolidation of the old server and storage components. Composable Infrastructure is the technological concept behind HPE Synergy. This means: maximum flexibility in the use of hardware plus intelligent management software, fully integrated and coordinated. This solution is compact and flexible at the same time and enables the entire data center infrastructure to be pulled together in the smallest possible space in a rack.
Technology
- HPE Synergy 12000 including 12 HPE Synergy 480 Gen 9 Compute Modules with a computing power of 2 x 14 cores at 2.40GHz each
- 2 HPE Synergy D3940 storage modules
- One connected HPE 3PAR StoreServ 8200 storage system
- HPE OneView
Value
- Up to 90 percent virtualized IT
- Maximum flexibility in the use of hardware such as servers, storage and network
- Fail-safe and future-proof computing environment
- Enough scope to add new server or storage components during operation without additional expense
